The city's Water Dept. recently dug out the drainage ditches at our end of the street. They also removed some trees that were invading the ditch. Garrett walked down the morning after this to inspect the doings. He returned with exciting news! He could see a little farther into the woods now, and had spotted an old structure of some kind along with just a hint of a car, turquoise.
We went back with binoculars and could see chrome, glass... and bits of turquoise through the leaves. This is off the very end of the dead end street, low and into the forest. The ground was still very mushy from the recent rains so we waited for things to dry up a bit.

We set out this morning to have a look. There's still quite a bit of water around. This heron gave us the eye--then walked warily away. (His "top knot" almost disappears into the grasses, take a close look at the back of his head in the larger image.) Garrett had brought along the machette. We moved slowly, avoiding the abundant poison ivy, following in the deer tracks where it was dry enough.
About a hundred yards into the woods, we could clearly see a small decaying horse stable and the car. Even from a distance the car looked strange...
